How do you describe yourself and your work to other people?

And how do the right people, the ones who need what you do, hear about you?

They can't bring you onto their project if they don't know about you. Yet so many talented writers and narrative designers shy away from talking about their work. It feels like bragging. It feels like marketing. It feels icky.

Good personal branding shouldn’t feel icky. It should feel true to who you are, and it should move you toward what you want.

You already have a personal brand

The way your network thinks of you is the brand you’ve already built. It exists whether you set out to build it or not.

So the choice isn’t “brand or no brand.” It’s whether you shape how people see you, or let them decide on their own.

Marketing is storytelling

At its heart, marketing is simple: the right message, to the right people, at the right time.

Studios pay people like Najmah to get that right for games. In this workshop she takes the same methods and points them at your career.

THE NARRATIVE DEPARTMENT PRESENTS:

PERSONAL BRANDING WORKSHOP

WITH NAJMAH SALAM

In three hours, live, we’ll cover the three things that matter:

  • What you want to be known for
  • Who needs to hear it
  • How to say it so it lands

We’ll go back and forth between how it works and hands-on exercises, so you leave with a plan, not just notes.

WHAT CHANGES FOR YOU

You’ll have a way of thinking about your reputation that you can use again and again: when you go freelance, when you go for a promotion, when the layoff email comes and you need to move fast.

You’ll know what to say about yourself, where to say it, and how to keep it up without it feeling like a chore.

ABOUT NAJMAH

Hey there, I’m Najmah Salam. I call myself a Creative Artificer and Marketing Alchemist, which is a nerdy way of saying I work in creative production and marketing for games. I’ve spent 16 years getting the right people to notice the right thing. I love helping creative people do what they do best, whether that’s through sane project management or marketing that’s honest, focused, and built to last.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Freelancers who want more work in a crowded field
  • In-house writers and designers who want to be recognized and promoted for what they do
  • Anyone between jobs who needs studios to find them, fast
  • Anyone who hates “personal branding” and suspects there’s a better way to do it

NO MORE THROWING SPAGHETTI

Hoping the right people notice you is not a plan. Come build one.

Sunday, November 15, 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Central, on Zoom. $97, recording included. Registration closes at 10:00 am Central that morning.
